Interest can be the key factor in sparking an appetite for reading. In my years of teaching, I have seen struggling readers pick up books that are a little too hard for them, but they were able to understand them simply because their interest in the topic drove them to comprehension success!

- Go to your local library and get a recommended reading list. Chances are those titles have been vetted and are worth a peek!
- Have your student read book reviews from their peers. There are book reviews on this site written by fourth graders. You can also go to Spaghetti Book Club to see more book reviews written by children.
- Find a series. If your child gets hooked, then all you have to do is keep feeding them books from that series.
